This is a LED retrofit light for 12" Florescent Tube Lights. Due to the size of these smaller tube lights, an external driver is provided. This driver converts 10-30v DC RV power to a clean 12v DC power for long tube life. Other brands of retrofit tube lights have a wire and the driver hanging out the side of the tube, we choose to provide the driver separately and we utilize the natural pins on the end of the tube for power for a much cleaner looking installation. Since the driver occupies the space of your previous ballast, you will never see the wires or driver while looking up at your fixture.
You will need basic 12vDC wiring skills to install these tubes, or have them professionally installed. Wiring is basic, each driver gets a positive and negative wire connected, and each driver has a positive and negative wire that need to be connected to the end of each tube. Product and directions were great. The difficult part was the narrow thin fixture not having enough space to fit all the drivers. It took some time but I got it>
Lights are great. So much brighter.
I changed out 3 fixtures which each had (2) t-5 florescent tubes. Directions were exact and easy to follow. Each one took less than 10 minutes to complete.
So much brighter with no dead spots in our 190 Roadtrek.
I converted six 12" florescent bulbs in 3 fixtures using M4 LEDs in our Class B van. One of the six LEDs was noticeably brighter than the other 5, and the measured voltage across the LED was ~2 volts higher than the others. I contacted M4 by email, and response from Steve was immediate. After reviewing my installation via photos, Steve sent out a replacement driver which resolved the difference.
Thank you so much Steve, for your quick response, concern and verification of correct installation, and for your well designed conversion kit with great instructions.
Replaced 12 inch florescent bulbs with LED. Instruction were good and YouTube video really helped. LED is much brighter. Have only used a small amount so will see how things go in next 6 months
Starting to convert as many lights as I can in my Airstream Travel Trailer and found these bulbs. They were very easy to install and the finished look is almost identical to the original look. Unless you look really close you would think that they were the original Florescent bulbs. The brightness was almost a perfect match also. Very pleased with the product. A little pricey to switch over but I will never have to replace the bulbs again.
changed over 8 double bulb lights fixtures after 1st one rest went fast. Took a little longer having to drill rivets out for ballast coverbut what a difference in light. after taking ballast out can see why drains batter so fast. thank you
12" tube to LED somewhat labor intensive. There are other LEDs at a lower price but previous contact/presention weighed in decision to purchase.
YouTube series by RVGeeks aided greatly with install.
To increase space I removed the ballast which did give added room to tuck away the necessary wires. Also, I used a couple of automotive ties to help tidy wires for convenient ballast cover replacement.
M4 Note: You can preview the instructions on our site. In a nutshell, for each tube there are four wires to connect to a driver. Two out, black and red, one to each end of the tube. Two in connect the the two coming into the fixture, through the switch if you have one. Do one tube at a time to simplify it.
Easy install if you watch the RVGeeks YouTube video 1st. Bright, instant-on lights. Will order more as my fluorescents burn out.
A little more work to install but if you follow the video listed on the website it’s a plece of cake.
